I am an Okie through and through! I was born and raised in NE OK, moved all over the country for several years in the beginning of adulthood, but no other place quite felt like home the way Oklahoma does! I currently reside in the middle of nowhere SW OK and couldn’t be happier!
I graduated from East Central University in Ada, OK with Full University Scholastic Honors in 2012 with a Bachelors of Science in Cartography and Geography with an emphasis in Geotechniques with minors in Mathematics and Physics. I began working towards my Master's degree in Geography/Geospatial Technologies in the Department of Geography & Environmental Sustainability under the College of Atmospheric & Geographic Sciences at The University of Oklahoma directly afterwards, but had to take a step back for family and health reasons. Hopefully I can finish that up soon. BOOMER SOONER! The overall big picture goal with my graduate research is to use GIS to help people and community leaders prepare for and recover from natural disasters. I am also very interested in understanding the human decision making process when a warning is issued when choosing whether or not to take shelter. So my interests are most anything along the lines of societal impacts of severe weather, community resilience, frequency and distribution of tornado events, population exposure and fatality rates, hazards geography, risk and vulnerability, perceptions of risk, critical GIS, etc. I tend to wear many hats and being a geospatial engineer is only one of them. I am a mother to the most amazing children on this planet with the best spouse, a country girl, an avid concert junkie, lover of all animals (especially horses), friend, sister, photographer, storm spotter, weather enthusiast, avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, Pokémon nerd, adrenaline junkie, supreme DIY’er, leather-working, handmade horse tack and accessories, woodworking, paracord crafting, anything that can be made with the cricut and I’m always down for a spontaneous road trip. My Heroes in life are My Daddy for showing me how to work hard above all else, My Momma for teaching me how to love someone more than yourself, all of the US Military and first responders for putting their lives on the line every day for the people of this amazing country and my undergraduate advisor Marco for never letting me lose sight of my potential.
