My name is Amber (Cannon) Davis and I am a GIS Analyst and Consultant in Norman, OK. I am also working towards my Master's degree in Geography/Geospatial Technologies in the Department of Geography & Environmental Sustainability under the College of Atmospheric & Geographic Sciences at The University of Oklahoma. BOOMER SOONER!
The overall big picture goal with my research is to use GIS to help people and community leaders prepare for and recover from natural disasters. I am also very interested in understanding the human decision making process when a warning is issued when choosing whether or not to take shelter. So my interests are most anything along the lines of societal impacts of severe weather, community resilience, frequency and distribution of tornado events, population exposure and fatality rates, hazards geography, risk and vulnerability, perceptions of risk, critical GIS, etc.
I tend to wear many hats and being a master's student is only one of them. I am a mother to two of the most amazing children on this planet, and a step-mother to two more, a country girl, an avid concert goer, lover of all animals, a Christian, friend, sister, photographer, storm spotter, weather enthusiast, a Brownie Girl Scout Leader, a member of the steering committee for the Oklahoma Chapter of the South Central Arc Users Group (OKSCAUG) and I am Plexus Slim Ambassador.
My Heroes in life are My Daddy for showing me how to work hard, My Momma for teaching me how to love someone more than yourself, My husband for selflessly giving over ten years of his life serving our country, and my undergraduate advisor Marco for never letting me lose sight of my potential.
